Chthonic Fatigue Syndrome is an infomercial from the future, of invented illnesses, light language, and Nü Age body aesthetics framed by eerie black and white infrared thermal (IRT) video. Underworld spa enthusiasts Marne Lucas and Tyler Hubby explore capitalist wellness culture of the Chthonic realm (pronounced “thonic”) where one may bask in the darkness of their soul while their skin absorbs soothing ancient mud sourced from ancient funeral pyre charcoal. Using heat-sensitive military imaging technology, actual bodily heat signatures appear white, and cold or wet areas are black.
